About Sitra Bonoo

I am a child from the Indian diaspora: there is the land of my forefathers; India , the land were I was born; Suriname and
the land of my future; the Netherlands .

I was born in 1958 in Suriname, South America, and migrated tot the Netherlands when I was 12 years old. My grandparents were born in India, my grandfather in Andhra Pradesh and my grandmother in Uthar Pradesh. As I grew up in the Netherlands, my mother's sister, who lived with us, was the one who gave me access to old India with, I loved her.

From Kathak to Bharata 

I started dancing in 1972 with an Dutch lady, Mrs. Steenhuis who danced Kathak. Later I switched to South Indian style Bharata Natyam with mrs Chandrika sundarraman. Several times I went to India to develop myself, learn new repertoires and other related subjects like Nattuangam and music. For the last 30 years I have been busy with dance productions, arangetrams and studies and trips to India.

I have no need to attract many students and I have enough opportunities for dancing and teaching. Now I am reflecting more on the things I want to leave behind, when I will end or slow down my activities or take time for other things.
